Martin insists he will send his side out to win the match at the Olympic Stadium rather than trying to simply protect that advantage.
“At this club you have to try and win every single game,” the head coach said. “That has to be the mentality.
“I don’t believe in trying to avoid something, we try to work towards something.
“For me, it’s the same situation we were in before the first game. It’s a tough game against a good opponent.
“We took so much learning from last Tuesday and we need to take that into this game.
“I think we’ll be better than we were last week. We have to be.”
Rangers enjoyed 75% possession in the first leg, but Panathinaikos were menacing in attack until the dismissal of Giorgos Vagiannidis soon after the 52nd-minute opener from Curtis.
Martin thinks an intense training week at St George’s Park in Staffordshire will help his players deal with the heat in Greece, while he has no worries about the hostile reception in store at the Olympic Stadium.
“I’m looking forward to the atmosphere,” he said. “We have a lot of internationals, guys who have played in big games for this club, I’m really confident the guys can handle that.
“We have to manage the game in the best way possible, in our way, for us. We have to take the crowd out of it as much possible, try to dominate as many aspects as we can.
“We have to be the team we want to be always. The approach going into the game is certainly not any different.”
