Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has shared some major behind-the-scenes details regarding the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Feige recently disclosed details about multiple upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies during a roundtable interview in Los Angeles for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day set to begin production later this summer, Feige was asked about the superhero sequel, which will see Tom Holland suiting up as Peter Parker/Spider-Man for the first time since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with Doctor Strange erasing everyone’s memories of Peter Parker to protect the multiverse. With no one to turn to following this massive change, the movie ended with the MCU’s Peter becoming closer to his comic book counterpart, complete with a cheap apartment and homemade Spider-Man suit. Many fans took this to mean that the next Spider-Man movie would feature a street level story. However, reports soon emerged that Sony wanted another multiverse movie while Feige and Holland wanted a street level story. Despite the addition of street level vigilante Punisher to the cast, the direction of Brand New Day still hadn’t been officially confirmed by Marvel until now.

What did Kevin Feige reveal about Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

“I think there’s a promise at the end of No Way Home that, for as sad as it is, that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life. We are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories, him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being, by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with—for lack of a better term—street level crime as opposed to world-ending events that he faced when working with the other characters,” Feige revealed during the roundtable discussion, confirming that Brand New Day would be a grounded, New York City-set story, similar to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Feige also revealed why Jon Bernthal’s Punisher was part of the cast for Brand New Day, explaining, “So when you do that, you say, ‘OK, who are the other street level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with?’ And of course, I love that the Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic, and that great cover . . . I don’t wanna say too much, but I will say too much. Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie. It starts shooting very soon, and he’s got 8 or 9 comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie. It’s super cool.”

Besides Holland and Bernthal, actors confirmed for Spider-Man: Brand New Day include Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas in undisclosed roles. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are also expected to reprise their respective roles as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Ned Leeds, although the extent of their involvement remains unknown at this time. There have also been reports of Mark Ruffalo appearing as Bruce Banner/Hulk, but Marvel has yet to confirm this casting.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
